Would you believe me if I told you I am not particularly fond of desserts? Surprisingly, I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I'd much prefer to indulge in a starter and the main course and skip dessert altogether. However, on the rare occasion that I opt for dessert, it's because there's an irresistible creme brulee, fluffy tiramisu, creamy vanilla ice cream, or my all time favourite, some fresh fruit on the menu.
Interestingly, a recent review of my blog's 'Dine' section revealed something different, prompting me to write this inviting post.
So from Leeds to Milton Keynes to London and beyond, come get your sugar rush with me and check out these eye candies down this dessert-filled memory lane.
Here's to some of the desserts I've loved before!
Afternoon Tea Gateau - Kimpton Fitzroy
Enticed by a tray of carnivalesque-coloured sweet treats at another table, I forewent the remainder of my two scones.
The sweet tray promised much. A square of cake infused with passion fruit and guava delivered on the first taste. The raspberry rose crème fraiche (chosen for its Instagram worthiness, shhh) is just as exciting to taste as it was on the eye.
Coconut and Mango Mochi - Mei Ume at Four Seasons Ten Trinity Square
Nothing about the sound of ice cream balled up into a gelatinous rice coating tingled taste buds. Yet only eyes could communicate the excitement lips experienced at the newly discovered coconut and mango treats called mochis.
Drumstick Lolly - The Man Behind The Curtain
Ultimately gratified with a recognisably flavoured drumstick lolly ice cream.
White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake - St Aymes Cafe
A dreamy white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.
The biscuit base - beautiful, crisp.
The topping, a very light mouse and not overly sweet.
It would not have been out of place to order another!
Beauty Cheesecake - Harrods Champagne Bar Milton Keynes
A dessert aptly called Beauty Cheesecake. A dessert that literally sat me back home under the passion fruit vine, climbing a corner of the yard and then the mango tree. At first glance, not much of a looker, but days on, the taste continued to tantalise my memory.
Dessert Platter - Park Chinois
If only to look at, my eyes were rewarded, drawn to a satiating red creation on the platter. Because I'd declined dessert. But lips around the dessert spoon deliver everything eyes communicate to the brain. Tangy raspberry freshness burst into a cottony sweet cream, mingling with a crunchy shell and rose petals: this, the Rose Royce of the platter.
Custard Tart - Made In Oldstead
Custard and apple have always been good old friends, but when this rye custard tart chose apple verjus gel to accompany it, it sure never saw the apple verjus becoming the star. The apple flavour tangos a clean, fresh, lively taste on the palate. The recipe asks for dots of verjus to be piped on, but I'd say that's purely for presentation because the first bite had us reaching for the remainder of the verjus, and we layered it on.
Now you can order this in as it is from Made In Oldstead, At Home Food Box.
Baklava with whipped Kaymak - Ruya London
A mouthful and I want the rest. Crunchy bites of filo pastry and hazelnut become creamy mouthfuls of goodness alongside the whipped kaymak and caramelised milk sorbet it's served with.
The sharing plates I was overly excited about at the start of dinner are now a disadvantage.
Bubble Tea and Cotton Cheesecake - Tattu London
I instead got ready for the Bubble Tea and Cotton Cheesecake dessert, which I didn't order.
And if I were to recommend one other from Tattu London's menu, I would recommend this. It's mouthful after mouthful of bubble-bursting fruity taste sensations. I thoroughly enjoyed.
Raspberry mille-feuille - No 131 The Terrace
And when a raspberry mille-feuille appeared halfway down the menu, I denied dessert no more. Under the fork, the raspberry mille-feuille crunched and, once in my mouth, crumbled. The raspberry coulis makes it a refreshing creamy mix along the way. Easily, we could have made it two.
Cafe Liégeois - Restaurant A Vista, Corsica
This dessert could readily become my coffee ritual.
That's this Cafe Liégeois
Every mouthful, an oh! An ooh! An ohh!
What's in it?
Some strong Espresso
Velvety Vanilla ice cream
Indulgent coffee ice cream
Whipped cream
Roasted Coffee beans and a cigarette biscuit. Every so often it pulls at my coffee heartstrings.
